Parents often ask how do I know when my child's behavior warrants consultation with a mental health specialist. As a result, Stephanie Myers has provided readers a wonderful list to get parents started. A special thank you to her for our first blog post!

Indications your child is at risk for an Autism Spectrum Disorder:

· Seems to be in his/her “own world”

· Limited interest in other children

· Poor response to his/her name

· Lack of appropriate eye gaze

· Lack of showing gestures such as pointing

· No joyful expressions—doesn’t smile when smiled at

· Doesn’t share interest or enjoyment

· Prefers to play alone

· Delayed language development

· Use of unusual language

· Repetitive movements with objects

· Repetitive movements or posturing of body, arms, hands, or fingers

· Resists change in daily routine

· Repetitive or intense interests in objects, activities, or topics

· Over or under reaction to sensory aspects in their environment
